When the pandemic happened and remote work was normalized, software companies and others alike were looking for a team management tool that could help on managing their projects smoothly. That is where Slack got popular. While it had a user base way before the pandemic, this is where it got the recognition that got it popular today.

Slack is a team management tool that software companies, small or large, can use to manage their virtual or physical teams effortlessly. If you want to gather your team virtually, no matter where they are in the world, Slack is a social media messaging and calling application that you can use for that purpose. The most common usage is to manage work teams to keep them productive and efficient, but you can also use it to manage your business, parties, and even weddings.

Chat and Channels

Slack, for Windows, can bring all of your channels and chats together. Not only chats, but it can also bring your files, documents, spreadsheets, and everything else together. Every message, file, notification, and everything else is indexed in Slack, so if you are looking to search for something, you can search it using any search term and find it immediately.

Not only messages, but users can also search within documents and files. A powerful search operation is what sets Slack apart.

Apart from chats, channels are where everything takes place. Channels are a kind of group chat, in which people can post things for others and reply to each other (or not, depending on the rules set by the admin). In case of business usage, the admin can control the channel settings, and messages, and even see everything else.

Integration with other applications

The integration that it offers with other apps is great. You can connect all the tools that you require because then you would not have to switch between different apps. Everything will be within Slack, perfectly integrated, and flawlessly working. From code-related apps to support-related mini-apps, Slack offers everything.

Is Slack free?

Slack has both free and premium (Pro and Business+) versions. The free version has a lot of limitations including messages from only the last 90 days as well as files, up to 10 apps, and no customization options. If you are using the free version, you will have to face a lot of limited features which are frankly not enough to manage your remote team. If you have even a small team, you will have to go for the Pro and Business+ versions.

The Pro version retails for $7.25 per person/month if billed yearly, and the Business+ is available for $12.50. In case the Pro and Business+ versions are not enough and you have a massive organization to manage, then there is the Enterprise version available on demand.

Conclusion

Slack is a team-management tool that is great for managing projects efficiently, especially suitable for small to medium-level companies. The option is there to manage large organizations as well, but that depends on your requirements. The chats, channels, and integration of apps are something that elevates Slack's credibility, although the amount of admin privileges might be worrying for the end-users, as the admin can view every chat including direct messages.
